The Legend
Lives On!
 |
SSP's Misty was foaled on March 16, 1979, to
Roxy's Little Sheba, who was sired by Wilson's
Red Dog. Misty was sired by Shalako's Plaudit,
whose sire was Prince Hancock. She was bred by
Gary Cunningham and was in training with Sue
Scobee when Curt and Priscilla Barnes found her,
with the help of Tom and Glenda Wilson. Curt fell
in love with Misty and purchased her on August
20, 1983. She was the Barnes' first Appaloosa. .
|
At the time of her retirement, SSP's
Misty had accumulated 67 western pleasure points in her short
show career:
Curt and Priscilla knew SSP's Misty had
been a great show horse, but they had no idea just how
great a brood mare she would be when they bred her in
1985 to a local Quarter Horse stallion, a son of Two-Eyed
Jack, producing the legendary show mare Misty Eyed. SSP's
Misty has had a total of 13 registered foals (to date)
with a total of 2,083 points (as of 15 July 2002). These
points are as follows:
| Performance |
10 foals |
645.0 points |
| Halter |
7 foals |
83.5 points |
| Non-Pro |
7 foals |
567.0 points |
| Youth |
6 foals |
787.5 points |

This total will continue to grow for many
more years as her foals continue to excel in the
show ring. Several of these youngsters are just
starting their show career, and certainly there
will be others yet to follow (including her 2003
foal by Zip'n
To Paradise). Her foals have thus far
received 17 Register Of Merits, 2 Performance
Superior Events and 1 Club Champion. This
includes also the 6 foals that have earned 18
Bronze Medallions -- making this mare and
outstanding producer of champions! Misty's foals
have earned 24 World and National titles, and 14
Reserve World and National titles in Open,
Non-Pro and Youth divisions.

From her first foal's birth in 1986 to 2003, she
has not lost a foal. So, out of 17 breeding seasons, she
has been in foal with 14 foals.
SSP's Misty is a smart, good looking mare, with a
sure-of-herself attitude. You would not know that she is
a 1979 mare! She is a part of the Barnes' family and
holds the highest place of honor at Cedar Springs Farm,
where she is dearly loved. She will spend the rest of her
life here, and when the time comes that we must finally
let her go, she will be laid to rest next to her great
son, Zippos Mr Misty.
SSP's Misty was automatically inducted into the Hall of
Fame in 1996 when she had 5 Medallion Winners. Since that
time she has added two more making the total to 7 Medallion Winners!!
We are so proud of SSP's Misty and her production of
so many fine performance horses.
She is not just a legend --
SSP's Misty is a
Living Legend!
